Follow-up
The newspaper did not print my letter, but did interview me for the story and quoted from my letter for the Thursday, November 18th edition. The story noted that Park Ridge has no protective ordinances in place to protect historic structures and that 51 residences were demolished in that town from January through October The article also said that, although there is a community organization fighting to enact some ordinances against this tear-down madness, they are largely ignored by the city's aldermen. The appearance of the story must have angered the owner/developer. I was the first to arrive at the site early Friday morning (November 19th). Second to arrive was a young man who would not identify himself to me, but who I later identified as the new owner. When he arrived, he questioned me as I was taking pictures (from public property). When I did not stop photographing, he spoke to his assistant, and it is then that he must have informed his assistant not to allow me on the property and to have me arrested if I did enter. On that Friday, a friend, Ken Temkin had arranged with the demolition crew to salvage some of the metal casement windows from the building. Ken and his wife Lisa own the Van Bergen designed "Whitehouse Residence" in Highland Park, which has the same windows. Ken and Lisa are planning an addition over the garage to add much needed space to their home and want the addition to be as sympa
