So what happened to this blog anyhow? Has this project come to a complete halt? - you might well ask. Well, no actually. But most of the dramatic big stuff has been done, and now it's a matter of finishing all those little odds and ends. I've been spending lots of hours taking care of many small details and lots of little unseen jobs. A couple of larger items are left, however. I still have to make the art glass - ten panels in all, and finish building the back porch. I also have to change a kitchen cabinet, but the replacement is still on order. Once it arrives, it should only take a few hours to get it installed. Also, a door for the back bedroom is on order and that'll be installed when it arrives also. So anyhow, yesterday and today I'm cleaning up and removing tools from the job site, and putting a lot of them back into storage. Since I have no big jobs pending at the moment, and Avey and I still don't have a house - nor a workshop for me, I still have to rent storage for all my tools. It's a real pain! I'll also be setting up a small work area in Marie's basement so that I can fabricate the art glass panels there on site. That's also not very convenient, but again, I haven't got a home workshop. Below are some pictures of what I've gotten done in the past few weeks. These things weren't supposed to take so long. I had planned for my son Tristan to be helping me out on much more of these last parts of the job. I also bid my price for much of the job at his "apprentice" wages. But then he went and got another full time job and so wasn't available to help out for the past several of months. So, I've not only been losing time, but also am not making any more money on this job. But it couldn't be for a better person. Anyhow, I have other people waiting for me to get to them for some smaller jobs. So I'm as anxious to get this whole job done, as I'm sure Marie is! But this last part - glass making - will be the most fun for me. And I may take advantage of the opportunity of having a temporary workplace set up, and put together a couple of art glass panels that I've been wanting to do for myself for over a year, since my wife and I sold our house. (Note to Marie: I'll get your work done first!) Here are those pictures: Bathroom medicine and wall cabinets, and door Living room and entry door heat registers in living and dining rooms had this original finish under the paint. We were able to remove the over-paint without damaging this finish fireplace with door frames waiting for stain and art glass bedroom hall with new light fixture and linen cabinet Door (still needs varnish) back bedroom off porch painted blue So, anyhow, this is winding down, and my next entry with pictures will probably be when I get the glass in, in the next two weeks. |

Here are a few more pictures of what's happening at Marie's. I finished the rest of the cabinetry work, and the last cabinet we special ordered that I mentioned in the previous entry arrived and is installed. Just to make it official, we passed all our inspections, piece of cake. I trimmed out the exteriors of the new Marvin windows. They need a some touch-up paint and a little more caulk. Isn't the view of the lilac bush lovely from this new window?! And finally, I finished this one art glass panel for Marie's approval. Nine more to go.
I finished an art glass panel for Marie this evening. I did this design a few years ago (it was for a competition -- that I lost), but never got around to executing it in glass. This job gave me a welcome opportunity. The physical workmanship is not my best, but I haven't done any glasswork for over a year, so am a little out of practice. Not the quality to show in a gallery, but perfectly okay for this application. And not to be too cocky, but the work is better than a lot of expensive stuff I see in many stores.
I did stop by Marie's to take a couple of pictures today. Here is what the art glass looks like in the kitchen cabinets. They still need to be puttied, but I wanted to get them fitted first. Anyhow, Marie had her first dinner party yesterday for 8 people, and I wanted it to look nice. She said it went well and everyone hung out in the new kitchen. Cool. Also, it's nice to see the dining room with some furniture in it. And some Flowers!
Here's more pictures of stuff that got done in the past week: This blog is officially over. Hope you found it interesting. Boy isn't that totally anticlimactic?! ********************* |
